On-Farm Verification Request
Thank you for your interest in becoming a fully Registered (Verified) VBP Beef Operation in Alberta.
The on-farm verification involves a third party, VBP-trained, auditor coming to your beef operation and validating that the requirements
of the VBP program are being met.
Before completing the request form below please make sure that your beef operation meets the following eligibility criteria:
1. Training - One person from your operation has taken the VBP training workshop, or the on-line training module.
2. Practices - All the applicable program “Must-Do’s” (grey shaded areas of VBP Producer Manual or refer to the Program Checklist ) have been implemented.
3. Records - The necessary records have been established for the on-farm food safety related practices. Cow/calf operations must have at least six months of records and feedlot operations must have at least three months of records.
The on-farm verification, which takes from 2 to 3 hours to complete, does involve a cost (including traveling expenses) to have a VBP trained auditor visit your operation and assess SOPs and documentation. The cost is based on the type of beef operation you have as follows:
• Cow/Calf or Feedlot with non-medicated feed - $500
• Feedlot with medicated feed - $850
You will be mailed an invoice for this fee after the on-farm verification has occurred.
Important Note: You may be eligible for up to a 70% audit cost refund under the ‘Growing Forward – OFFS Producer Funding Program’.
This funding must be applied for prior to the on-farm verification occurring. See the following website for funding details www.growingforward.alberta.ca
